(Chow, J. C.; Shaw, G. A.; Kostishack, Daniel F.; Savoye, E. D.; Burke, Barry E.; etc.).
Unclassified: Ccd Imager Technology Transfer Seminar 13 December 1989: Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory.
Lexington, MA: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1989. 1989. - Quarto, 11 inches high by 8-3/4 inches wide. Spiral bound clear stiff plastic over stiff printed white wraps. There are minor indentations to the rear cover. 405 pages, profusely illustrated throughout including many full-page illustrations and diagrams. Very good.

Additional material is laid in at the front, including a 47-page stapled program description "MIT Lincoln Laboratory Advanced Electro-Optical Technology Program (WPD - S617)". The 8-1/2 inch high by 11 inch wide program includes a "Program Overview" by J. C. Chow, "Advanced CCD Technology for Visible / UV" by Barry E. Burke; and "Advanced Processing Technology for Step-Stare Sensor" by G. A. Shaw.

Also laid in is a mechanically reproduced map with directions to the Lincoln Laboratory and a 2-page "Agenda" for the "MIT Lincoln Laboratory Satellite Survivability Program: Grumman Visit". There are a couple of tiny tears to the edges of the map.

An integrated circuit containing an array of linked, or coupled capacitors under the control of an external circuit, "CCD" (charge-coupled device) is a major technology used in digital imaging. Although largely replaced by CMOS sensors over the last several years, CCD image sensors are still used in some professional, medical, and scientific applications where high quality image data is required.

Located in Lexington, Massachusetts, the MIT Lincoln Laboratory is chartered and funded by the Department of Defense as a research and development center to come up with applications of advanced technology to problems of national security.

RARE. Very good .

CHRISTIE, Ronald J. & HOFFMASTER, Barry C.
Ethical Issues in Family Medicine.
Oxford University Press, 1986. Hardcover. Begins with focus on less controversial but more pervasive, everyday ethical problems faced by family physicians with respect to patient welfare and autonomy. A broader extent of bioethical issues and their context is considered and extreme ethical positions are rejected as well as the theoretical frameworks that generate them. The authors have a purpose to deepen the understanding by of the defining characteristics of family medicine, physician-patient relationships and the family as a patient. Focus is not limited to traditional controversial biomedical issues favoured by ethicists -including euthanasia, abortion and genetic engineering. Rather, the position taken is that applied ethics has to be grounded in the underlying philosophy of the discipline. More sensitivity to the diversity of ethical problems is counselled and consideration of the wider range of values that these problems encompass. Later chapters concentrate more on practical cases to illustrate, clarify and test these ethics of family medicine. Contents: 1. The Definition of Family Medicine2. The Physician-Patient Relationship 3. Patient Welfare 4. Patient Autonomy 5. The Family as Patient 6. Toward and Ethic of Family Medicine 7. Control of Information 8. Intervening in Patients' Lifestyles 9. Conflicts of Values 10. Difficult Patients and Physicians 11. Referral, Advocacy, and the Role of a Family Physician in a Hospital 12. Counseling 13. Conclusion. Slight wear and sunning to dj, touch of foxing to bottom edges, otherwise very good condition. 194pp. ISBN 0195036379.
